Rachel Anne McAdams
Rachel Anne McAdams was born on November
17, 1978 in London, Ontario, Canada, to Sandra Kay (Gale), an RN, and Lance
Frederick McAdams, a truck driver and furniture mover. Rachel is of English,
Welsh, Irish and Scottish descent. Rachel began acting when she was an adult.
At the age of 13, she was performing in Shakespearean performances at summer
camp for theater. After graduation, Rachel received a BFA degree from York
University in Theater. After her role in Disney's The Famous Jett Jackson
episode (1998) and later, she appeared in Slings and Arrows, a Canadian
comedy-drama which follows the struggles and triumphs of the Shakespearean
theatre group. In 2003, she won a Gemini award. The role she played in Mean
Girls (2004) Regina George, in Mean Girls (2004) instantly became a top-rated
actress on Hollywood's most sought-after young actors. After that she starred
alongside Ryan Gosling as the romantic drama adaptation of Nicholas Sparks'
bestseller The Notebook (2004). The Notebook was a huge success at the box
office , and was the most loved romantic drama with a young audience. McAdams
and Gosling were in love during filming and continued to date up to the middle
of 2007. McAdams followed with her next film, comedy Wedding Crashers (2006),
the thriller Red Eye (2004), as well as the holiday-themed drama The Family
Stone ((2005)). McAdams also explored independent films with Married Life
(2007) which was premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. It also included
Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper in addition to Patricia Clarkson. The role she
played in the military drama The Lucky Ones (2007) and the newspaper thriller
State of Play (2009) and the romantic comedy The Time Traveler's Wife (2009)
followed , before she appeared opposite Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in Guy
Ritchie's international blockbuster Sherlock Holmes (2009). McAdams played the
role of the confident producer in Morning Glory (2010). McAdams also played
Owen Wilson's materialistic fiancee in Midnight in Paris (2011). McAdams then
returned to the world of romantic dramas in The Vow (2012) with Channing Tatum.
McAdams appears in Terrence Malick's To the Wonder (2012) with Ben Affleck and
Noomi Rapacace in Brian De Palma’s thriller Passion (2012).
